Write the family name exactly as intended
Send the full inscription rather than just a surname and a request to "make it look nice." "The Rivera Family" and "Alex and Morgan" communicate different ideas. If you are unsure about a plural or possessive form, settle that wording before production; the engraver should not have to infer the intended meaning.
For couples, use the names they prefer rather than assuming a shared surname. If a monogram is involved, specify the exact letter order and whether one letter should be larger. Monogram conventions vary, so a full name alone is not a complete layout instruction.
Choose a date that tells the right story
An establishment year might refer to a wedding, a household, or a family business. Explain which meaning you intend, and provide the date as it should appear. Do not assume the year of the gift is the year that belongs in the design.
A date is optional. A name-only design can remain useful when you do not know the couple's preferred milestone wording. If you are including a dedication from several people, identify the essential text and ask whether the chosen layout can carry it readably.
Compare the layout with the product
Start with the current cutting-board, charcuterie-board, or serving-board pages to discuss the kind of gift you want. The exact supplied board and usable area determine the final design.
Consider how much room the main name should occupy and whether a border helps or crowds it. A handle, shape, or other product feature can affect placement. A representative image is design inspiration, not proof of the exact dimensions, material, or finish being quoted.
Ask about intended use separately
Tell WTx3D whether you envision a display keepsake, serving piece, or a board used in food preparation. The personalized design and the product's documented use and care are separate questions. Do not infer food-contact suitability, cutting-surface use, or dishwasher safety from an image or the product category alone.
Ask for guidance tied to the actual supplied item. Generic care instructions for one wood or finish should not be applied automatically when the board's specification has not been confirmed.
If the gift begins with a handwritten recipe
A recipe board needs a different brief from a family-name design. Say whether preserving the original handwriting is part of the memory or whether you prefer the recipe set in readable type. A familiar correction or note in the margin may be meaningful, so identify anything you want considered rather than cropping it out automatically.
Send a clear, straight-on image of the entire recipe and a typed transcription of faded or abbreviated words. Identify the essential recipe if the source contains several. The image, proposed board and amount of detail must be reviewed together before handwriting reproduction or a complete recipe layout can be confirmed.
Put the board and personalization in one quote
Send the name or recipe reference, preferred board direction, intended use, quantity, budget and the date you need the gift. WTx3D's default is to supply the selected board and personalize it, so you do not need to buy a blank before asking.
Ask the quote to identify the actual board, proposed engraving area, artwork preparation and shipping charges. Review the confirmed product details alongside the layout, particularly the longest line or smallest recipe text. If you already own a board, request acceptance before shipping it; an existing-item request has a separate scope.

Can two family names appear together? Provide both exactly as intended and explain their relationship. The team can review the wording hierarchy on the selected board.
Must a family board include a large initial? No. You can request a name-led design, a monogram, or another authorized motif. The final scope needs confirmation.
Can I copy a board design I found online? Use it to explain the style, but do not assume the artwork is free to reproduce. Provide authorized artwork or discuss a distinct design direction.
