What framed 3D layered art actually means

A photograph, poster, or canvas keeps the image on one flat surface.

WTx3D builds the portrait from physical layers of premium PLA, a durable plant-based polymer suited to precise indoor display art. Darker colors form the foundation, lighter colors build above them, and changes in layer height create texture, highlights, shadows, and tonal transitions.

Most WTx3D artwork uses approximately 30-60 physical layers and four to six coordinated colors. Those colors are not painted onto the surface, printed on paper, or applied as stickers. They are separate physical layers that become part of the finished artwork.

From straight ahead, the piece reads as the family portrait. From an angle, the depth and surface texture become much easier to see. Light moving across the artwork creates shadows that a flat print cannot produce.

Every standard framed piece includes WTx3D’s preferred Charcoal Matte frame at no additional charge. Its low-glare finish was selected to complement the layered surface rather than compete with it.

Use this five-point source check

Before uploading, look for:

1. Faces large enough to recognize. A high-resolution image can still contain people who are too distant.
2. Useful lighting. The source needs enough real highlight and shadow to preserve faces, hair, clothing, and expression.
3. Limited obstruction. A blocked eye or face cannot be recovered simply by removing the object in front of it.
4. Room to crop. Keep important hair, heads, shoulders, hands, pets, and meaningful objects inside the original photograph when possible.
5. The strongest original file. A phone or camera original normally contains more usable information than a screenshot or compressed social-media copy.

Professional photography is not required. A clear phone photograph can work very well.

What WTx3D prepares individually

Every accepted family photograph is prepared for the physical result it can produce. Depending on the source, that work may include:

• Background removal or simplification
• Crop and placement
• Upscaling when needed
• Brightness, whites, darks, and contrast
• Sharpness where genuine detail remains
• Separation around faces, hair, clothing, pets, and objects
• Color and palette planning
• Manual layered-art adjustment before proofing

Most standard Custom Photo Art uses a clean black foundation because it supports strong subject separation and the layered color sequence. Another treatment may be considered when it clearly produces the better result, especially for very dark subjects.

What preparation cannot honestly invent

Image preparation can strengthen information that exists. It cannot guarantee:

• A clear face that was never captured
• Authentic features hidden behind another person or object
• Unlimited facial detail in a distant group
• Exact restoration of information that is completely missing
• A natural new group portrait made automatically from unrelated photographs
• Exact screen-to-material color matching

When another source will clearly produce a stronger result, WTx3D may recommend it rather than force a weak photograph into production.

How the WTx3D process works

1. Upload the strongest authorized photograph

Use the original phone, camera, scan, or photographer file whenever possible. By uploading it, the customer confirms that they own the image or have permission to use it for the custom artwork.

2. WTx3D reviews and prepares the image

The source is evaluated for face size, lighting, crop, background, obstruction, separation, and the quality of the physical layered result it may produce.

3. Review the digital proof

The proof shows the planned crop, color direction, wording when applicable, and frame path. Up to two reasonable proof revisions are included for changes such as palette, minor crop, text correction, or a small layout adjustment.

A completely different source set, major composite, or substantially new concept is outside a normal proof revision and requires separate review.

4. Approve the final design

This is the point to check faces, family details, names, dates, crop, color direction, and presentation. Nothing enters production until the final proof is approved.

5. WTx3D creates the physical piece

The approved artwork is fabricated, finished, assembled, framed, inspected, packaged, and shipped from West Texas.

Several people in one photograph

Several people can work when they are already together, close enough, clearly visible, similarly lit, and not heavily blocked. As the group grows, each face receives less space.

People from separate photographs

WTx3D does not automatically combine unrelated sources into one new natural-looking group. Differences in angle, lighting, scale, pose, and missing body information require direct review. Separate portraits or a Custom Photo 4-Pack are often more faithful.

Older or damaged photographs

Children and privacy

Custom artwork clearly featuring children is not used publicly without clear parent or legal-guardian permission. Customer photographs are not posted publicly without permission, and declining permission does not affect the order.

Family memorials and pets
